Charlie Kirk, conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while delivering a presentation at Utah Valley University.
Utah Valley University has announced a full campus closure until Monday following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. All academic instruction, events, and administrative operations — both virtual and in-person — are suspended during this time, according to a statement on the university’s website.
The university confirmed that all coursework, assignment deadlines, and exams will be postponed due to the closure. However, employees will continue to receive their regular pay during the suspension.
In an alert, the school said there is no ongoing threat to the campus. People who left essential possessions behind during the rush after the shooting can pick their items up today at the Young Living Alumni Center, the university said.
Inside the White House as officials learned about Charlie Kirk’s death
“In shock.”
“Just sick.”
“Devastated.”
White House officials expressed initial shock as reports emerged that Charlie Kirk had been shot during an event at Utah Valley University earlier this afternoon.
Aides kept former President Trump updated in real time, briefing him in the Oval Office as members of his team tracked developments from the Situation Room.
Senior communications officials quickly gathered in the West Wing’s Upper Press area, where tensions were clear — an expletive rang out as the door slammed shut behind them.
Staffers are deeply shaken by the tragedy, with many of them pointing to their own personal connections to Kirk from the 2016 campaign and in the decade since. Some worked, through tears, as cable channels played in the background, noting that the shooter was still at large.
