John Abraham Reveals Steven

John Abraham's journey in the industry began as a model before he made a successful transition to acting. Over the course of more than 20 years in the industry, he has seen both praise and criticism. Despite his success, his acting skills have often been a topic of debate among critics. However, one of the most major moments in his career came with his role in Deepa Mehta's critically acclaimed film Water. Steven Spielberg lauds Water In a recent conversation on BookMyShow’s YouTube channel, John Abraham opened up about his experience at the 2006 Academy Awards, where Water was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Although the film didn’t win the Oscar, it remains a defining moment in John's career.

The film was a poignant exploration of social issues, and the actor's performance stood out among the cast, which included Lisa Ray, Seema Biswas, and Waheeda Rehman. One of the most memorable aspects of his Academy Awards experience was meeting Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg. John shared that Spielberg complimented him on his performance in Water, despite the film not receiving widespread attention in India.

He said, "When I went to the awards, I had the honour of meeting Steven Spielberg, and he loved my performance in Water, whereas no one here even saw it for a day. I remember Charlize Theron talking to me and saying that. I loved what you were processing, but no one here talked about that." More about Water Water itself faced several challenges during its production. Originally, the film was planned to feature Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das, and Akshay Kumar, with shooting set in Varanasi.

However, protests erupted due to controversy surrounding Mehta’s earlier film Fire, which led to the project being shelved. Eventually, Water was revived by Mehta, with filming moving to Sri Lanka and a new cast. The film premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was featured as the Opening Night Gala. It was later released in India in 2007. Water was Canada's official entry for the Oscars in 2006.
