The Delhi election results have dealt a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with key leaders facing unexpected defeats. Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister and AAP chief, lost his seat from the New Delhi constituency to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma, who triumphed by over 2,800 votes.
In another setback for the party, former Deputy Chief Minister and prominent AAP leader Manish Sisodia was also defeated. Contesting from the Jangpura constituency, Sisodia was narrowly beaten by BJP's Tarvinder Singh, losing by a margin of more than 600 votes. Despite public sympathy surrounding his recent imprisonment, it wasn’t enough to sway voters in his favor.
However, it wasn't all losses for AAP. The party celebrated its first victory in the assembly elections from the Kondli constituency, where Kuldeep Kumar emerged victorious against BJP's Priyanka Gautam with a commanding margin of 6,293 votes. On the other side, BJP managed to secure a victory in the Lakshmi Nagar constituency, with Abhay Verma winning the seat.
These results reflect a highly competitive election, with both parties securing wins in key constituencies, setting the stage for a new chapter in Delhi’s political landscape.
